China’s post-2000s, “Generation Z” consumers are fast approaching college age. iResearch’s recently released report, Insights on College Students’ Consumption provides a close up look at what students are buying and why.
According to this report, this generation of digital natives has more than RMB 100 billion in disposable spending power.
Female College Students Don’t Skip a Step in Daily Skincare Routines
The report shows that female college students’ top expenditures are food and beauty. Female college students don’t skip a step in their daily skincare routines. They spend heavily on a broad range of basic skincare products, including facial cleansers, sunscreens, and facial masks.
Female college students are also heavy make-up users. More than half of female college students wear make up at least once a week. Lipsticks are particularly popular make-up products among college students.
College Boys Also Spend on Skincare
The report found that nearly half of male college students use skincare products every day. Facial cleansing tops the list of male skincare habits. Facial cleanser represents 55.7% of all male college student skincare purchases.
Male college students also are increasingly using make-up products. 16.3% of male college students indicate that they use make-up products and 7% use them daily.
Chinese College Students Develop Brand Awareness for Beauty Care
The report finds that female college students are using a diverse set of beauty brands. They tend to prefer skincare products from China, Japan, and South Korea and make-up products from Europe and America.
Many brands are also reaching to grab a share of the male college student demand. European and American brands have gained an early lead of Chinese brands in the male market.
